I rushed down the housewares isle of the local Goodwill when I saw several solid pieces of Pyrex. I deflated when I picked up the smallest of the Horizon Blue mixing bowls and saw the "collectors" price tag of $14.99! What? Are you kidding me? I had to hold back from going to the manager and telling them just how high this pricing is. More than local antique stores! How is a girl with a booth supposed to make any money? There must be a new person with just enough vintage knowledge to be dangerous. Anything that looks old now has $14.99 on it. Some of it is a deal....most of it is WAY to high. I did find one thing marked at that price that WAS a great deal (and I kept it for myself since I've been looking for one forever. I actually sold a rare piece of Pyrex from my personal collection, so I have a bit of extra to find things on my wish list. Wondering which piece? The Black Rooster. I know, some of you Pyrex Peeps are gasping right now. I just went through stuff and went, what do I really love...valuable or not. It didn't make the cut. I like COLOR.
Anyway...here's what I got!
It's from 1906! I am so excited. It had hot pink nail polish spilled on the weighing part. I took a chance that it would come of with non-acetone nail polish remover without damaging the paint. It worked like a charm!
Needless to say, I left Goodwill with nothing for my new booth and headed to Value Village. I had a 30% off coupon and managed to find quite a few things for a very reasonable price!
I found this coffee can for $2.50 at a smaller thrift, and also this rusty tin. Sometimes the rust just works, yah know? I just liked the age on this one. Found a few things there for the booth too!
I found another apron for $1.99...my husband bough a little set of hooks to hang them, so I will have to show you when he puts it up.
I just couldn't resist this magnet at 75% in a little shop. There are 4 Thermos' in it!
Also, before I forget again...I finally created a "Gluten Free Pastor's Wife" button! It's under the list of great blogs, and it's yours for the taking!

I used to collect aprons as well..but I don't anymore. I saved my very favorites and donated the rest. I just don't have the space
CONGRAT'S on renting a booth! My "few" words of "wisdon"...keep it FULL, rotate the treasures and it does take time for buyers to "find" you at the shop!
I also think the thrift stores are way too high on the "collectibles"..garage and estate sales are where we find most of our treasures!

I'd love to know how they determine their pricing at the thrifts, yesterday I saw a small Jimminy Cricket tin box,with a handle, $75 in the showcase, come on!!
Good luck on your booth! I would love to have one but rental space is a bit high here and at this time estate and garage sales are in a slump! Great find on your scale...I have a couple and just love the look of them in my kitchen!

Stacey, yes; $14.99 is too high for you to make a profit. I find that with our local thrift. Anything they think is old they put it in the collectors case and it's no bargain. When I'm buying for myself I just bite the bullet and do it. If I was selling it would be a different story. Love the scale! I have three now and know that I could not pass up another if I ran across one. The rustic hostess tin is awesome! Hope you find better prices. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
