I got up early for an advertised Estate Sale on Friday. I got there half an hour early, and there were no signs...at all! I'd left the exact address at home thinking I'd see signs, so after about 15 minutes, I saw a teen girl come out of the house I suspected was it (Lots of tarp covered stuff in the drive). Oh yeah, did I mention it was pouring? So I got my umbrella and asked if it was the right place.
"Yeah, but my aunt and mom are still asleep."
(It's 8:50)
Ummmm....ok. By now other people are waiting. At 9am, the aunt comes fresh from bed, opens the garage door. The teen girl yells, "Have at it!"
I don't mind a little digging, but this was 30 plus years of garbage piled up. Someone could have easily gotten hurt. I was super frustrated, but the aunt asked what I was looking for. I started with Pyrex.
"Oh, we have that." She gets out a box of rusted muffin tins and some lids. I maneuvered out of the mess and marched back into the car, I'd had enough.
It was really raining, but I went home to pick up my daughter who had a yard sale itch to scratch. We drove around for miles. Nothing. Then we found one little sale. I got this:
Really heavy milk glass planter from Westmoreland. $2
Then we stumbled on another...
Melamine again! This time in the form of a beautiful children's plate from Oneida 25 cents!
And this! Whoo Hoo! My first kids Thermos, and I hit the jackpot! It's from 1953 and was for Neil Armstrong's first launch. It was marked $5 and I offered $3. Other then a spot where someone tried to scratch "Thermos" off, it's perfect!
Then Saturday we woke up to sunshine and the kids and I headed for the Swap Meet. Oh how I am loving the Swap Meet! And my kids find great things they like too, so it's all the better. Here's what I got:
Lime juice jar $1 !!!
What? Another unique Thermos? Yes! 1976 ABC Wide World Of Sports. (I can hear the music from it in my head...it was on every Sat afternoon) $3
I think the lady thought I was nuts on this one. She wasn't selling it. It had stuff in it. I emptied it, asked how much and she gave it to me for 50 cents. It's a vintage Snow Star Family size ice cream tub. I love the graphics!
I've been wanting a sled for awhile now, and they are always spendy. This teen was selling it for $10, I offered $8 and he took it! It's fantastic!
I LOVE the graphics and the name.
I only went to a couple thrifts this week and there wasn't much, but I did run across this adorable, mint condition mini casserole (Pyrex) for $2.99! Flamingo Pink no less.
Then I found these for 50% off at our local thrift.
Remember those little Pyrex bowls I just found? Well, I just found red saucers to go with them! I love the mix and match look. 30 cents each
More Melamine...this time a baby dish! 30 cents
All in all, a great vintage find weekend

There are so many cute ways that you can decorate that sled for the winter time. I can't wait to see what you do!

What a great weekend for your thermos collection! They're really nice!!
I have my old sleigh from when I was little and also my Dad's, they're great for winter decorating, but I never do anything fancy with them, just put them out in front of the house, his is red so it really takes your eye.
Wow! Lots of great stuff! That space themed thermos is fantastic! My husband would be jealous.
I want to find some of those tiny pink pyrex casseroles. I've never really seen them around here.
