A Little More Christmas

Just in case you didn't get enough...(I hadn't)....here's a little more.

Why oh why won't this pic turn?  Sorry I'm not very techie.  I was excited to find these candles yesterday at a Thrift down the street for 50 cents each!  I've seen them for $5!

So....I incorporated some of the candles in what I've already done.

Cookie cutter collection in a basket on the coffee table.

My mom got me this "Christmas" bread box at Goodwill's black Friday 1/2 off sale.

I love these!  Two are from a yard sale and one from a dear friend.

Our church does a free tree lot for military families.  Last night our life group manned the lot and every time they "trimmed" the tree...I took the remnants.  This is one of my uses!

Happy Decorating!

Thanksgiving Traditions and Christmas Decorating

Hope you all had a fabulously Thankful Thanksgiving!  Ours was very low key and enjoyable.  We have a little tradition of going to Starbucks on Thanksgiving afternoon and then gawking at the crazy people camped outside of Best Buy all day and night instead of having Thanksgiving dinner.  This time there were no tents and trailers because they open at midnight. Yes, weird tradition...somehow I think it is a reminder to us what Thanksgiving is NOT about...and keeps our focus.   Anyway, here's some of the fun traditions.  I think these little things are so important to keep family values alive.
My daugther and her peppermint hot chocolate

They brought in "potties" for the event.  Lovely.

This is our traditional Cranberry Jello...dating back to the 60's for my parents.  I did it in the vintage mold...didn't come out perfect but it tasted good.

1 - 3 oz raspberry jello
1 1/4 cup hot water
1 can jellied cranberry
1/2 cup celery finely chopped
1/2 cup crushed pineapple well drained

Dissolve jello in water
In separate bowl chop cranberry with pastry blender
Add cranberry to jello and refrigerate for 45 min
Add celery and pineapple - Stir and continue to refrigerate
(Double if using a mold)

Sauce (optional)
1 cup sour cream
2 Tb maraccino cherry juice
1/2 cup cut up mini marshmallows

Here's my family...and our traditional Thanksgiving photo.

After Thanksgiving....Decorating!

I've been collecting all kinds of Vintage Christmas goodness from the thrift shops all year!  My daugther and I could hardly wait to get everything out.

Started with the outside.  The utility cart got a holiday makeover.  I am most excited about the 60's light up Santa I got this summer at a yard sale for 10 cents.

I used an old stadium bag with a broken zipper and stuffed it full of greenery and added the Merry Christmas.  The ice skates were thrifted for $2.50 and the "Boot and Shoe Grease" was free at an Estate Sale.

These little guys are newer and made to look old.

Two red Pyrex fridgies, some "fruit cakes" and a vintage Japanese figurine.

Love the cover of this old magazine! (49 cents thrifted)

This is my large shelf filled with thrifted Christmas treasures!

Just found these cute vintage figures at VV for $1.99

The Snowflake Garland is my favorite Christmas pattern of Pyrex

Yes, I'm a thermos freak.  I've been finding them at thrifts and yard sales for awhile now.  The Holiday is my favorite!

Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas!  Keep those vintage values alive and enjoy your fmaily!

A Little Something for My Vintage Crazy Friends

It was soooo busy last week I couldn't blog!  It was a half day week at school too, which means I spent half my life in a car going to or from the elementary and middle schools.  So...here is what I found over the last few weeks.  I hit an Estate Sale that was super cheap...the lady was ready to be done.  She even gave me a box of vintage cookbooks which I sold.  Also found a couple of things at some of the smaller thrifts.

I'm so excited about this.  My daughter and I found a new small thrift.  I found this spice rack their for $2...it just happened to match the recipe box from the 50's that my mother gave me.  Didn't even know it existed!  Then I remembered seeing a set of milk glass spice containers but they were more than I wanted to pay.  However, after finding the rack I really wanted them, but I couldn't remember where I saw them. Then today my husband and I were thrifting in another town and went to my favorite small thrift and there they were!  Not only that, the color tag was half price so I got a set of 6 for $5!

I am a cookbook author but I can't say I have ever heard of this spice???

I was looking for a Christmas table cloth.  Love this!  At the Estate Sale in mint condition for $4

I don't even know what this is but I loved the Vintage packaging and at 25 cents I had to have it for my new Vintage Funk laundry room! Also from the Estate Sale.

I found these at two different thrifts.  The trees were $1 each and the complete set of Shiny and Brite ornaments in a  box with a shape I have never seen were 99 cents!  I love the box!
