Feelin' Groovy!

Friday afternoon, I was told to come fix up my booth or "Shelf" really.  It's a pretty large shelf though, as it took me two photos to show it!  I filled it all up with EVERYTHING I had.  Oh, my...I thought I'd have some left to switch out.  I need to make a little banner that says "vintage" on it for the display, and add a cloth hanging over one edge or something, but this is a start.

So, in the middle of the night on Friday, I was up with hot flashes and then I was just awake (common place lately).  Then I started to panic about getting a booth at the antique store.

"What am I doing?  What if I don't MAKE money...what if I LOOSE money?  What if I NEVER find anything vintage at a yard sale again????"

I felt really good about doing it earlier.  I even prayed about it and felt a peace that I haven't had before when considering it.  It's the right time.  I decided to trust.  I let go and felt much better.

Then I went out on Sunday of all days, when nothing is left usually.  I worked Saturday at the downtown clothing consignment store, so I couldn't go then.  Well....my socks were blessed off!  Wait until you see what I found at only three different sales!  Some to keep and alot to sell :)  I felt confirmation that this was the right thing to do!

Here goes:

SALE #1

A milk jug $2.00 (this is actually from a Friday Sale) and LOTS of cookie cutters. (25 cents).  This nice lady loved cookie cutters!  She was really sweet to talk to.

She even had a couple in the packages that were a special deal!

I got these Santa candles still in the package for $1, and a pile of BINGO cards for 50 cents.

I love this tray!  It's a keeper for 50 cents.

Love this vintage picture! 50 cents.

SALE #2

So, at this sale, the lady had so much left for Sunday!  Her prices were unbelievable!!!  I was trying not to hyperventilate.

This Fire King Bowl has faded yellow tulips but is in great shape otherwise.  Considering it's rarity, I think if I price it well, it will sell. ($1).  And the Thermos jug was 50 cents, and you can guess it's staying with me!

Two Fire King bowls 25 cents each, Japan figurines 25 cents, and a stack of melamine 50 cents.

Corning teapot 50 cents, onion chopper 25 cents, pitcher 50 cents

70's owls 50 cents

SALE #3:

I didn't get that much at this sale, but the finale item is my find of the day!

1978 edition with lots of illustrations $1

This bread box had no lid and at $1.50, it works perfect as a planter on my cart!

This isn't new, but while I was changing things up on the porch, I put my milk jugs in this basket.

Are you ready for the grand finale????

1951 Kodak Brownie 35 MM camera that works!!!!  The lovely "tick, tick, tick" is music to my ears.  I really want to keep it, but it will be great at my booth!  I paid.....$1

Changed up my shelving.....

Things are Happen' !

So, I made the leap of faith and signed up for a booth at one of the downtown antique malls.  I sell already...but it's outright, so this will be new for me. I hope this will be a nice little extra income for things like retreats, and extras for the kids.  Since I gleaned out my own vintage collection, I will have a nice start...and I went shopping yesterday to get more.

I rushed down the housewares isle of the local Goodwill when I saw several solid pieces of Pyrex.  I deflated when I picked up the smallest of the Horizon Blue mixing bowls and saw the "collectors" price tag of $14.99!  What?  Are you kidding me?  I had to hold back from going to the manager and telling them just how high this pricing is.  More than local antique stores!  How is a girl with a booth supposed to make any money?  There must be a new person with just enough vintage knowledge to be dangerous.  Anything that looks old now has $14.99 on it.  Some of it is a deal....most of it is WAY to high.  I did find one thing marked at that price that WAS a great deal (and I kept it for myself since I've been looking for one forever.  I actually sold a rare piece of Pyrex from my personal collection, so I have a bit of extra to find things on my wish list.  Wondering which piece?  The Black Rooster.  I know, some of you Pyrex Peeps are gasping right now.  I just went through stuff and went, what do I really love...valuable or not.  It didn't make the cut.  I like COLOR.

Anyway...here's what I got!

It's from 1906!  I am so excited.  It had hot pink nail polish spilled on the weighing part.  I took a chance that it would come of with non-acetone nail polish remover without damaging the paint.  It worked like a charm!

Needless to say, I left Goodwill with nothing for my new booth and headed to Value Village.  I had a 30% off coupon and managed to find quite a few things for a very reasonable price!

I found this coffee can for $2.50 at a smaller thrift, and also this rusty tin.  Sometimes the rust just works, yah know?  I just liked the age on this one.   Found a few things there for the booth too!

I found another apron for $1.99...my husband bough a little set of hooks to hang them, so I will have to show you when he puts it up.

I just couldn't resist this magnet at 75% in a little shop.  There are 4 Thermos' in it!

Also, before I forget again...I finally created a "Gluten Free Pastor's Wife" button!  It's under the list of great blogs, and it's yours for the taking!

A Few Things

I got up early Thursday morning to get in line at a church sale in the next town. I've had REALLY good luck at church sales in the past.  Lot of people were waiting outside...unfortunately, not much vintage.  I did get a couple of things though...

 This beauty was only $1!

I also got this for $1.

I looked at the local antique mall and found this mint condition bowl from the Primary set for only $3.  I have the completed set, but I love this size and the color and can use it since my set is displayed.

I kept passing this sifter by in the local thrift.  I thought it was priced kinda high at $8.  I just love it though and I went in and asked if the "collectibles" were on sale that day hoping for a discount.  He gave me $1 off, which wasn't much but enough to make me bite.

So now I have three sifters, which makes a collection!

The family went to Bellingham, a town that we love and I found this at an antique mall.  I've NEVER bought a Thermos at an antique store, and I've never paid more than $3, but it's soooo cute!  So I paid $8.

I'm hoping to hit more sales this weekend, and I'm thinking of renting a space at the local antique mall...we'll see!

Vintage Fun and A Blast from my 80's Teenage Past

I found something this week at Goodwill that shocked my socks off.  I embarrassed my teenage daughter I got so excited.  I was looking through the magazines, and one after the other, I started pulling out copies of magazines...not just magazines LIKE the ones I had, some of the ACTUAL issues I had from 1983 and 1984.  They were mixed in with the the new magazines for 50 cents each!

These are just a few...the "heart throb" magazines still had the posters in them!  Can you imagine?  And the TEEN' Great Looks special edition was one I completely remembered having.

Yes, that's Sarah Jessica Parker on the left.

I had this poster in my 8th grade locker.

I had another ad printed at Costco...you guessed it, THERMOS!

I framed it with a Pyrex ad at put them in my dining room.

I found this vintage ice cream scoop at a local antique shop for $4 so I could make an ice cream display in my kitchen.

I redid my cart with summer colors

Vintage Laundry Room Update

Hi There!

Last year I redid my laundry room and made it my favorite room in the house.  (It might as well be cheerful...I'm in there ALOT!)  Anyway, I've changed it up and added to it, and I thought it would be fun to share.

Here it is:

This is my "free" little piece with some vintage finds.  This is one of my favorite pieces because I rescued it from a yard sale "Free Pile" and cleaned it up.

Vintage: Fun Stuff I Found for Not Much $

It was a good "thrifty" vintage week...just like I like it!

I'll start off with a sale at one of my favorite little thrifts about 20 miles away...they had a 25 cent vintage lines basket!  "Squeal".  I got the Vera scarf on the left, and the patriotic one on the right...

This cute little hankie and this table runner...

And this gorgeous turquoise and pink towel...  and, oh?  Yes!  I DID find more Hazel Atlas!!!! Is it too soon to call it a Hazel Atlas streak of luck?

I got these two lovely plates for $3 each at the downtown indoor flea market.

They are too cute not to do an "artsy" photo with.

I found my 4th Betty Crocker series book at Value Village for $1.99.  Anyone know why they spell it "Cooky"?  I see that they use that spelling but also "Cookie" inside.

My in laws recently moved and my Mother-in-law found these fridgies with lids she didn't know she had.  I LOVE family Pyrex...it's the best kind!

She also had this!  Everyone laughed when I said I wanted it...I have wanted one for along time!  It's a vintage souvenir tippy cup...the back says MONTANA.

And then I went to "Carol and Nancy's Sale".  I have got to do a blog on those ladies.  $4 for the Flamingo Pink Lasagna pan.  I've been needing this size!

I LOVE this very old picture I found for $1 at a yard sale way out.  I always find the best stuff at the farm house sales.  The cute little old couple also talked me into this...

Boy am I glad they did!  It was $5, and I could tell it was old, but I wasn't sure about the goodies inside.  It had silverware, plates, salt and pepper and cups.  I was pretty sure the silverware was Bakelite.  I did a bunch of research on the pieces and the basket...they are all genuine mid-century and original to the basket!  The basket alone without the goodies in it goes for $50.  Whoo hoo!  I love this and will use it!

I have already started a major purging session here.  First I got rid of my "modern" picnic basket. And although I love vintage, I really like mostly things I can use.  After this week I decided it was time to pear down some stuff and only keep what I really love and can actually use in my Pyrex, plates, linen etc.   That makes more to sell and keeps my house uncluttered....(I'm a vintage collector who can't stand clutter) .

There is a Senior Center thrift way out in the country with really weird hours that I've recently gotten into.  Actually my sweet husband found it and took me there the first time.  I got these 1968 magazines for 50 cents each to cut out stuff.

This old wood sign will go in my laundry room with the other pink and turquoise blue stuff.

This little tray was 50 cents

A Fire King loaf pan for only $2

Another patriotic item for my display 50 cents

(sorry the pic won't turn)

Non of this is new...I just thought the colors looked so pretty in the morning sunlight.

And I leave you with some of my summer flowers...
